Halifax police are still investigating a homicide 27 years after it occurred. Jason MacCullough, 19, was found dead in a Dartmouth neighbourhood around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999. He was found on a paved path between 100 and 104 Pinecrest Dr. Investigators say MacCullough was likely passing through the residential area on his way home, using a well-known shortcut between the buildings. There were several 911 calls from people in the area reporting gunshots, but MacCullough’s body wasn’t found until a police dog was brought in. Police say there is no indication MacCullough was involved in any type of criminal activity, leading investigators to believe his death was a random act. Investigators believe there were witnesses in the area at the time of the homicide and urge them to come forward and share anything they remember about the day, no matter how small the detail.
