Cannabis sales in Prince Edward Island rose slightly in the last fiscal year as the province continues to compete with the illicit market, according to a new report. PEI Cannabis’s annual report for 2025-2026 said there were more than $28.8 million in net receipts, up from $26.4 million in 2024-2025. The report found PEI Cannabis, which operates five retail locations in the province, still faces competition from illicit markets that run with much lower overhead costs. “PEI Cannabis acknowledges the continued presence of a well-established and sophisticated illicit cannabis market,” the report reads. “This unregulated sector remains a significant part of the PEI landscape and benefits from lower operational costs, largely due to the absence of quality control standards and accountability.” PEI Cannabis said its improved sales will disrupt those illicit markets and reduce their influence. According to the report, dried flower made up a third of net cannabis receipts, followed by pre-rolls (24 per cent), infused pre-rolls (11 per cent) and concentrates (eight per cent). The Charlottetown location made up the lion’s share of the total receipts, bringing in $12 million. The Summerside and Stratford locations brought in $7 million and $3 million, respectively. Earlier this week, the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation found cannabis sales were up 11.2 per cent in the first quarter of the 2026-2027 fiscal year, reaching $36.8 million.
