P.E.I. RCMP investigating report of ‘suspicious interaction’ with children in Montague area

P.E.I. police are reaching out to the public for information about a “suspicious interaction” with children in the Montague area.

Kings District RCMP received a report about a man offering candy to elementary school-aged children.

“Police immediately conducted an investigation and have identified the individual involved. At this time, no criminal offence has been identified; however, the matter remains under investigation,” reads a news release from the P.E.I. RCMP.

The RCMP is advising parents to discuss personal safety with their children and shared the following tips:

• Never accept gifts, candy, money, or other items from strangers.
• Never get into a vehicle with a stranger, even if they claim to have a puppy, know your family, or say that a family member needs help.
• Move away from situations that make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
• Seek assistance from a trusted adult, teacher, parent, guardian, police officer, or other safe adult if you are concerned or feel threatened.
• Trust your instincts and leave any situation that does not feel right.
