Barrie Police watched a car travel over freshly painted parking spaces and weave between lanes in the Collier and Mulcaster streets area Friday after 1 a.m. Police stopped the car, but the man immediately exited, refusing the officers’ direction to remain in the vehicle, and walked away toward Dunlop Street. Despite being directed to remain at the scene, the driver continued walking and attempted to evade police by heading down an alleyway. When he continued to resist attempts to take him into custody, officers deployed a taser and placed him under arrest. The 25-year-old Dufferin County man was brought to the station and is facing the following charges: Barrie Police say drivers are expected to follow the rules of the road and comply with officers’ direction when stopped. Police say choosing not to follow those directions can unnecessarily escalate a situation and create additional risks for everyone involved.
