A 17-year-old driver from Quebec has been charged with stunt driving following an incident earlier this week involving two school buses. The incident took place Sept. 9 on Highway 63 near Balsam Creek around 2:30 p.m. “A member of the North Bay OPP observed a vehicle travelling 133 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone while overtaking two school buses on Highway 63,” police said in a news release Sept. 11. “At the time, road conditions were wet due to rain.” The 17-year-old from Saint-Philippe, Que., was charged with stunt driving, which carries an automatic 30-day driver’s licence suspension. As well, the vehicle was impounded for two weeks. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay. “The North Bay OPP reminds motorists that speeding continues to be a leading contributing factor in fatal and serious-injury collisions on Ontario roads,” the release said. “With students returning to school this week, drivers are reminded to exercise additional caution around school buses, school zones, and bus stop locations. School buses make frequent stops and children may unexpectedly enter the roadway.”
