Canadian country music superstar Tim Hicks is ready to bring it as the Troubadour Summer Concert Series winds down another banger of a season. Hicks’ musical style of country-rock, he said, was born out of playing in bars for more than 20 years. The superstar promises he’ll perform hits spanning his whole catalogue from nostalgic tracks like “Talk to Time” all the way to his current single, “The Pilot.” He’ll get to many of his other hits through the years like “Stronger Beer,” “Get By,” “Loud” and “Here Comes the Thunder.” Hicks is looking forward to sharing the stage with local, rising talent. “I wear that like a badge of honour,” says Hicks. He says it was a while of working hard before he ever had a song on the radio and he would tell an up-and-coming artist to “just keep going.” “Eventually you’ll get your 10,000 hours and that’s sort of when things start to take off, is when you stop caring so much about trying to make it and just sink into the work of it,” Hicks says. He admits he was 33 with a baby when his career started to take off. Hicks finds joy in touring across Canada. “One night you’re playing an arena, the next night you’re playing a theatre, the next night you’re playing a club, sometimes you’re playing outdoor festivals,” he says. “Each of those kinds of venues has their own kinds of charms and I love the variety of it.” His tour is winding down, but not before he hits the Troubadour stage downtown Barrie on Saturday. From there, Hicks says he’ll go into creativity mode as the weather cools off and head down to Nashville and the U.K. to write another slew of songs. “You gotta have lots of songs to find the good ones,” he says. Hicks will perform live on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Meridian Place in downtown Barrie. Mitch Zorn will warm up the crowd and open for Hicks at 7:30 p.m. Local openers Evan Denley, Candace & Michael and Barstool Confession will take the stage at 5 p.m. The Troubadour Summer Concert Series is presented by Paul Sadlon Motors, CTV News Barrie, PURE COUNTRY 106, BOUNCE 104.1, Hey Bear Productions, Lemmon Entertainment, City of Barrie and Tourism Barrie.
