Quebec police hand out over 180 tickets to ATV riders in 2-day operation

Quebec provincial police (SQ) handed out over 180 tickets in two days to ATV riders, as peak season begins on the trails.

On Saturday and Sunday, SQ officers worked with the Quebec police chiefs association (ADPQ) and the Saguenay police department to raise awareness about safe riding habits for off-road vehicle users.

Riders received tickets for the following offences:

• failure to obey traffic signs or applicable regulations;
• failure to wear a helmet;
• impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both;
• non-compliance of vehicles and their equipment with regulations.

Police say that more tickets may have been handed out as weather conditions limited the number of riders on the trails.
