For a man from Shelburne, a traffic stop near downtown Barrie resulted in a lengthy list of charges. Police say they responded to a complaint about a motorcycle causing a disturbance on Mulcaster Street on Sunday evening. Police claim they conducted a traffic stop after learning one of the riders had a suspended licence. The driver was arrested for driving while suspended and police say the subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a loaded firearm, drugs and a dagger. As a result of the traffic stop, the man faces one count of driving while under suspension and one count of having care or control of a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available and a charge for the use of a plate not authorized for the vehicle. However, the driver also now faces drug charges, possession of a CDSA substance, Schedule I. For the gun and dagger police say were found, the man faces charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm. The list continues. Barrie police additionally charged the man with possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and possession of a firearm, knowing that the serial number on it has been altered, defaced or removed. The man also faces two counts of failure to comply with a release order. As a result of the traffic stop, the man’s motorcycle was towed and the man was held for a later bail hearing.
