Provincial police say a group of youth are now facing charges in connection to an assault incident in Midland. Southern Georgian Bay OPP say they responded to a call for an assault in store in Midland, on Midland Avenue. Police responded to an “active assault” around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday. On location, officers spoke to a teenager who reported being assaulted to police. Police say he suffered minor injuries during the altercation between him and a group of other youth. Additionally, police say a weapon was involved in the incident. Three youths were later arrested and charged. A 16-year-old from Midland faces charges of assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and breach of recognizance. Another 16-year-old and a 15-year-old from Midland are also now facing charges of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. All three are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice youth court. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified. Police say the incident is believed to be isolated and there is no threat to public safety.
