A Winnipeg security guard was taken to the hospital on Friday after he was stabbed during a retail robbery in the city’s West End. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the incident took place on Friday just before 1:30 p.m. at a store in the 600 block of Sargent Avenue. Police allege a suspect went into the store, took a number of items and attempted to leave without paying. The security guard then confronted the suspect, which resulted in a physical fight. Police said the altercation eventually spilled outside of the store where the suspect took out a weapon and stabbed the security guard in the upper body. The suspect fled the area with the stolen items. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 24-year-old guard who had sustained a serious upper-body injury. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition. On Saturday around noon, police found and arrested the suspect in the area of Sherbrook Street and Ellice Avenue. A 23-year-old man has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He was taken into custody. The charges have not been proven in court.
