Authorities in Alberta say two Calgary men are facing charges in connection with an investigation into fraudulent vehicle registrations that discovered several stolen vehicles. The RCMP’s investigation began in July after the southern Alberta district crime reduction unit discovered a series of phony registrations. A further check determined these were connected to a group of suspects in northeast Calgary, which soon led investigators to locate an illegally registered Lexus SUV in the city as well as two newer model Toyota SUVs, also fraudulently registered, in B.C. All three vehicles are believed stolen, police said. On Sept. 2, RCMP, with the assistance of the Calgary Police Service, arrested two men. Those suspects each face three counts of use, trafficking or possession of a forged document. They are expected in the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Oct. 20.
