Calgary police are reminding drivers to stay safe on the roads after two motorcyclists were hospitalized this weekend in separate crashes. Police say the first crash took place on Saturday afternoon, when a 58-year-old man driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle struck a concrete median while travelling east on 130 Avenue S.E. near 46 Street. The man was thrown from the bike and sustained life-threatening injuries. Police say just over an hour later, a 30-year-old man driving a Suzuki SV650 motorcycle had his bike rear-ended by a 25-year-old man driving a Pontiac Grand Am south on Deerfoot Trail. The motorcycle then hit the back of a Dodge Durango, police say, which was being operated by a 62-year-old woman and had four passengers inside. That truck then pushed into a Toyota Camry, which was being driven by a 17-year-old boy. Police say the Grand Am also hit a Toyota Rav4 that was driven by a 29-year-old woman. The driver of the motorcycle weas taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Grand Am was taken for minor injuries. Neither speed nor drugs or alcohol is believed to be a factor in either collision, police say. “This weekend’s incidents are a reminder that operators of any vehicle, whether a car, truck or motorcycle, need to constantly be aware of their surroundings, including barriers and other vehicles that at times may be difficult to see,” police said in a news release. Investigations into both collisions continue.
