Calgary police have laid charges in a case that allegedly saw a man drugged before being robbed. Police say the victim was drugged while at a home in the 500 block of 40 Avenue N.W. on Aug. 2. It’s alleged the victim consumed alcohol, drugs and a substance believed to be gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB). Shortly after, he became ill and lost consciousness. Police say when he woke up the following morning, the victim found his keys and wallet were gone. “The victim later learned that more than $7,000 in unauthorized purchases had been made using his financial accounts through his cellphone,” police said in a Friday news release. “Investigators also determined that approximately $30,000 in fraudulent cheque deposits had been made.” Police identified two people who were allegedly involved in supplying drugs to the victim and had access to his property before it was stolen. On Aug. 21, police arrested a suspect and searched a home in Highland Park. The accused, a 37-year-old man, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, administering a noxious substance, theft under $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 17. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
