It’s not the greatest start to the weekend, but the unsettled weather should be contained to just Friday. That being said, Thursday certainly saw the opening act to the main rain show that is poised to move into Calgary on Friday morning. The city was under a severe thunderstorm watch that turned into a warning on Thursday afternoon, with a parade of thunderstorm cells joining forces to scatter rain, lightning and small-sized hail throughout Calgary. More isolated thunderstorms moving in a southwest to northeast direction are likely to continue throughout the early evening but should start to dissipate around 9 p.m. Then, we get a bit of a breather before a big rain mass from the north pushes into Calgary on Friday morning. The heaviest rainfall is looking to be between 7 a.m. and noon, turning into scattered showers with a chance of thunderstorms and gusty northerly winds in the afternoon. This unsettled weather will keep us cool, too, with a high of just 17 C in the forecast. Long story short, Friday is not looking to be a fun day outside. However! A high-pressure system is set to move in on Friday night, which will really clear things up heading into the rest of the weekend. We should see a solid stretch of stable conditions and seasonal temperatures from Saturday to Tuesday.
