The Okotoks Dawgs hit the all-star break the right way Friday night, defeating the Sylvan Lake Gulls 5-2 at a packed Seaman Stadium. A crowd of 6, 340 jammed into the ballpark on Teddy Bear Toss night, where they saw the hometown heroes combine for 10 hits, strong pitching and timely at-bats to secure the victory. Connnor Crowson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Dawgs. Cal Gates chipped in with a hit, two runs scored, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk. Brody Forno tossed six scoreless innings, striking out nine, to lead the Dawgs. Grady Keljo and Brody Burnette combined to throw 1.1 innings of scoreless ball to ice the win. Five members of the team are in Saskatoon to represent the ballclub at the WCBL All-Star Game Saturday night, including Crowson, Gates, catcher Jayden Lusk, right hander Tyson Willis and Calgary-born bullpen specialist Wyatt Sadeir. Following the break, the Dawgs travel to Edmonton to take on the Energy City Cactus Rats. They’re back in Okotoks Tuesday to take on the Brooks Bombers.
