A union representing hundreds of Nova Scotia Power workers says its members have rejected a tentative deal with the utility, which could trigger a strike next week. In a statement, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1928 said its members voted against the second tentative agreement with Nova Scotia Power on Friday. The union says it will file a 48-hour strike notice with the Nova Scotia Labour Board on Monday. “Once the Labour Board acknowledges receipt of the notice, the 48-hour countdown will begin,” the statement reads. “As a result of the membership’s decision to reject the tentative agreement, Local 1928 will also be requesting the required strike authorization from the IBEW International Office.” According to IBEW Local 1928’s website, it represents roughly 800 unionized employees with Nova Scotia Power. “The union will continue discussions with Nova Scotia Power throughout this process in the hope of reaching a negotiated agreement,” the statement reads.
