The Okotoks Dawgs hit a pothole as they opened the second round of the WCBL playoffs Tuesday night, dropping a 7-2 decision to the Sylvan Lake Gulls. In front of just over 3,400 fans at Seaman Stadium, Sylvan Lake jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning, on home runs from Jaden Flores and a three-run bomb from Johnboy Rittenhouse. Sylvan Lake added two more in the fourth inning on a two-run blast from Coleman Parry to grow the lead to 6-1. Logan Rumberg pitched six and a third innings for the Dawgs, striking out four. Noah Bourgeois tossed six innings for Sylvan Lake, striking out six to pick up the win. Cal Gates was a bright spot for Okotoks on the offensive side, going 3-4 with a double, RBI and stolen base. The Dawgs now face the prospect of having their season on the line Wednesday night, when the two teams square off in Sylvan Lake at 7:05 p.m. If there’s a deciding Game 3, it’s scheduled for Seaman Stadium Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
