Calgary police say an impaired rideshare driver was removed from city streets last week. Officers pulled a Kia minivan over last Wednesday after allegedly witnessing the driver make an illegal U-turn at Rangeview Boulevard and Magnolia Street S.E. During the stop, officers detected signs of impairment. Police say the driver failed alcohol screenings on two devices and an open alcoholic beverage was found inside the vehicle. The driver’s licence was immediately suspended, the vehicle was seized and towed and impaired driving sanctions were issued. Police said the driver was on their way to pick up a passenger at the time. “Calgary Livery Transport was notified, and the driver has been removed from rideshare activities pending review,” police said in a social media post. “Passengers trust professional drivers with their safety. There is no excuse for impaired driving and every driver has a responsibility to be fit to drive before getting behind the wheel.”
