More $1 million of drugs and stolen property have been seized across southwestern Ontario, part of a multijurisdictional investigation. In January, OPP launched an investigation into suspected drug trafficking throughout the province. Oficers said two separate criminal networks were operating independently from each other. One was in Brantford and Brant County areas, while the other was in London and Oneida Nation of the Thames. On July 7, search warrants were executed at four addresses in Brampton and Paris. On Aug. 12, police executed search warrants at a home in London and one on the Oneida Nation of the Thames Settlement. The following was seized: The estimated street value of drugs seized is more than $913,000. The stolen property is more than $100,000. OPP said the quantity of fentanyl seized is worth around 65,000 potentially lethal street-level doses. “Every quantity of fentanyl removed from circulation is a quantity that cannot reach our neighbourhoods, put lives at risk, or contribute to the devastating impacts of substance use and drug trafficking,” said Andy Bradford, Acting Det. Supt. of OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau. “This outcome reflects the strength of intelligence-led policing and partnership-based enforcement, and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to disrupting criminal networks, removing dangerous drugs and firearms from our communities and enhancing public safety across Ontario.” Seven people are facing a combined 64 charges. Five were arrested and warrants have been issued for the remaining two.
