Update: On Tuesday, July 21, Lethbridge police issued an update saying the vehicle involved had since been located. Lethbridge police say a hit-and-run driver just stopped to clear the road—not to help the person they’d just struck. Police are now looking to the public for help tracking down their suspect. According to police, around 9:46 a.m. on July 18, the male driver of a Pontiac Grand Am struck the male rider of a rental scooter at Fifth Avenue and 13 Street South. Police said the Grand Am’s driver “stopped, walked over to the scooter and removed it from the roadway before getting back into his vehicle and driving away.” They said the driver “made no attempt to check on the victim or exchange information.” The scooter’s rider was taken to hospital by EMS “for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.” Monday morning, police released a photo of the suspect vehicle. Police noted it has old damage to the driver’s side rear bumper and new damage to the passenger side front headlight area. They described the suspect as white, short and elderly with grey hair and a hunched back. At the time of the incident, he’s said to have been wearing t-shirt and jeans.
