Calgary police are looking for the public’s help in an investigation into a rollover crash on Deerfoot Trail that left two teenagers with life-altering injuries. At 12:05 a.m. on Sept. 5, police say a blue Subaru WRX was northbound on Deerfoot Trail, approaching an unrelated crash scene that had closed the road. The driver attempted to exit onto 17 Avenue S.E. to avoid the closure but ended up losing control and rolling several times. “The vehicle narrowly missed first responders and road crews at the scene who were responding to the earlier collision. Two passengers were ejected. A third passenger, a 23-year-old man, was also transported to hospital with serious injuries,” the Calgary Police Service (CPS) said in a news release. “The driver, a 21-year-old man, was taken into custody and transported to hospital with minor injuries.” CPS say both men and the 14-year-old have since been released from hospital, but the 19-year-old woman remains in hospital in serious, but stable, condition. Investigators believe several vehicles may have been racing with one another before the race took place. CPS are now asking anyone with dash-cam footage from northbound Deerfoot Trail in the moments leading up to the collision to come forward.
