On Wednesday, a number of provincial police detachments came together to conduct commercial vehicle enforcement in Collingwood. Members of OPP from Collingwood, The Blue Mountains, Huronia West and Central Region Traffic Management and Enforcement joined forces with the Ministry of Transportation to inspect more than 20 commercial vehicles. The vehicles were inspected to ensure they were in compliance with federal and provincial standards, as well as requirements laid out by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, an agency that represents Canada, the United States and Mexico. Of the 20 vehicles inspected by authorities, five were taken out of service due to what police call “significant safety defects.” Three drivers were also found to be operating the commercial vehicles without appropriate licencing, police say. Officers laid a total of 33 charges for a number of offences, including improper load securement, defective or improper braking systems, and failure to maintain required inspections and documentation.
