The season’s first snowfall is expected on Friday, ahead of a plunge in temperatures that aren’t expected to see highs above 3 C. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the special weather statement on Thursday morning, saying the incoming weather system could affect travel during the Thanksgiving long weekend. It says that snow could start falling in Calgary by Saturday. “Rain will begin to spread across northern Alberta today. Precipitation will change to snow on Friday in west-central regions, and for much of the province by Saturday,” ECCC said on its website. “Many areas of Alberta are expected to see accumulating snow on Saturday, possibly including the Calgary-Edmonton corridor. The highest snowfall amounts are expected in western parts of the province, including Grande Cache, Hinton and Jasper National Park, where snow totals could exceed 20 centimetres. “Snow amounts for other areas of the province remain uncertain.” The snow is expected to taper off by Sunday. ECCC advises anyone planning trips to prepare for “quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.” More weather details can be found on the CTV News Calgary weather page.
