The Royal Canadian Mint is honouring two Canadian-born superheroes with limited edition collectibles. Beloved comic book characters Deadpool and Wolverine have had their likeness’ captured in gold and silver by Agoro, a global creator in officially licensed precious metal collectibles. “The Mint is always looking for creative ways to showcase Canadian identity and express our national pride, so we were delighted to partner with Agoro to shine a light on the distinctly Canadian roots of Deadpool and Wolverine,” said Tom Froggatt, chief commercial officer of the Royal Canadian Mint in a news release. “The Mint is proud to have applied its skill and know-how to striking precious metal collectibles that stand out as much for their manufacturing excellence as their visual and thematic appeal.” The two belong to Marvel’s X-Men franchise and teamed up in the 2024 film Deadpool and Wolverine. Wolverine, born as James Howlett, was canonically born in Alberta. Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, hails from Regina, Sask., at least according to his hit 2016 film Deadpool. Agoro created 1,500-quarters ounce, 99 per cent-pure gold collectibles featuring the duo engraved opposite each other. It’s presented in a custom-printed tray-and-lid box, secured behind a hologram authenticity sticker. It also sits in a clear acrylic frame with gold-coloured magnets. The mint is also offering one ounce 99.9 per cent fine silver coins, with 10,000 individual mintages for each character. “Agoro’s Deadpool design features a brightly coloured engraving of the self-loving character in a classic pose, pointing to himself during one of his many monologues,” read the release. “The Wolverine design also features the iconic character in vivid colour, with his trademark claws ready for action, each of their portraits stand before a detailed engraving of a maple leaf, symbolic of their birthplace.” “The obverses of each of these collectibles feature a colour-enhanced engraving of each character’s gloved hand, framed by the words ‘Time to give the people what they came for’, a memorable line from their unforgettable movie.” People can place orders for these collectibles by contacting the Mint at 1-800-267-1871 in Canada or at the www.mint.ca.
