The sun is making a highly anticipated comeback on Saturday, thanks to a ridge of high pressure developing over Western Canada. That will end the dreary conditions we experienced on Friday that brought 14 millimetres of rain to the Calgary International Airport, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The low-pressure system that produced the rain is tracking to the east and currently over much of Saskatchewan, but many parts of Alberta are still dealing with the outer edges of this low. For Calgary, that will mean some light drizzle throughout the evening before the storm finally dissipates overnight. Saturday morning is when we’ll get the most sunshine. Come the afternoon, as the ridge nudges in, we could see some weak instability that will produce cloudy conditions and a slight chance of some evening showers. Sunday will start off cloudy, but the high pressure will allow for nice clearing and sunshine throughout the afternoon. The normal high for Calgary at this time of year is 23 C. On Saturday, we will hit a high of 22 C and then bump up to 26 C on Sunday. We will hold on to the nice above-seasonal conditions until Wednesday, when the notable drop in the 10-day trend indicates the potential for another cool low-pressure system entering the province, driving down the temperatures and likely bringing some wet weather as well.
