While the city is preparing to shut down the last of its three golf courses for the season, it’s business as usual on the fairways, greens and driving ranges at many of the dozens of private courses in the region. The last day of the season for the Victoria Golf Course and Driving Range is Sunday. Rundle Park’s course closed Tuesday, while Riverside shut down last month for additional rehabilitation work. Brett Prosser, the City of Edmonton’s golf and sport programming lead, said 2026 was a tale of two seasons: a rain-drenched start followed by a “wonderful” and relatively dry stretch from August until this week. “The course conditions came out really well after it dried up a little bit,” Prosser said, recalling the record rainfall that hit the city in June and July. “All three crews work very hard to put a good product out for the people.” But while the city courses are closing for the season, several privately-run courses are expected to stay open as long as possible. CTV News Edmonton meteorologist Josh Classen, who is known to haunt local links, said local golfers “know which courses like to stay open late.” “There will be some that stay open late, possibly to the end of October and maybe into the first week of November,” he said Wednesday, adding the long-range forecast is favourable but warning of frequent morning frost delays. Classen said heavy rain in June and July wiped out more than half the days golfers could have been on the greens as courses dealt with precipitation and soggy conditions. “It was extremely unusual,” he said.
