Brace for some powerful and potentially damaging wind Wednesday afternoon. There may not be too many leaves on the trees by Thursday. Wind warnings are in effect for Edmonton and areas north, west and east of the city. Edson, Whitecourt, Slave Lake regions as well as Athabasca, Westlock, Camrose, Vegreville and Lloymdinster areas are also under the advisory. Gusts in the 60 to 90 km/h range are likely throughout the area. In Edmonton, I think most of our afternoon gusts will be in the 60-80 km/h range. A low pressure system moving across northern Alberta is bringing some precipitation to northern parts of the province and we even had a few showers as far south as the Edmonton and Red Deer areas early this morning. We’ll get a bit of clearing as the morning wears on and partly cloudy skies for the afternoon. But, the wind will start to howl by midday or early Wednesday afternoon. Gusty conditions will persist through the early evening hours and then the wind should finally start to back off late tonight. Calmer conditions will settle in for Thursday and Friday. Temperatures are expected to get to the 14 degree range Wednesday and then slightly cooler Thursday. But...it may FEEL warmer Thursday without the wind. Warm air pushes in for Friday and Saturday as temperatures climb into the upper teens in Edmonton. But, we’ll drop back to highs near 12 degrees for Sunday and Monday.
