Those looking at the list of the Regina Pats scoring leaders seven games into the season likely wouldn’t be surprised to see young star Liam Pue’s name at the top. The 16-year-old was the third overall pick in the 2025 draft, the same year the Pats took local product Maddox Schultz first overall, who’s also taking the WHL by storm. What most fans likely wouldn’t expect is a third name tied for the team lead in points - 20-year-old Lumsden product Ellis Mieyette, who’s path to the WHL couldn’t be more different than Pue or Schultz. Mieyette, a former Regina Pat Canadian, joined the club last year as a free agent after spending a season with the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Drumheller Dragons. That torrid start has him on pace for over 90 points, nearly triple what he tallied for the Pats last year. “I think I’ve got some bounces. My teammates are playing really well, and they put the puck in the back of the net, so they make it easy on me,” said Mieyette. First year Pats head coach Dave Bell says Mieyette is an unassuming player who goes about his business on a nightly basis, doing the little things to be in advantageous positions on the ice. “At the end of the night he’s got a couple points, and you don’t really notice it. And then when you rewatch the tape and he’s won three or four board battles or a couple of 50/50 pucks in front of the net, and all of a sudden he’s got a couple assists,” said Bell. “He’s got the patience which happens when you’re an older guy in the league. He just does everything quietly and the right way.” Mieyette says he feels like he’s in the right spot, playing for what’s essentially his hometown team. “There’s no one else I’d rather play for. It wasn’t an easy journey, but it was a fun one and I enjoyed every part of it.” Fellow veteran forward and Whitewood, Saskatchewan product Connor Bear has noticed a jump in Mieyette’s game this season. “It’s really awesome how far he’s come. All the hype on him now is pretty awesome, and I’m happy for him. He’s definitely a big part of this team and our success,” said Bear. The Pats hold a 3-3-0-1 record as they prepare for a weekend that will see them host Medicine Hat on Friday, before travelling to Swift Current on Saturday.
