Tim Curry is being celebrated for his acting and community building, with Muppets, co-stars, and fans showering tribute on his name. The Muppets have declared the late actor, who died on Tuesday in Los Angeles, an “honourary Muppet.” The title was announced on Thursday on social media, where the puppet troop highlighted Curry’s performance as Long John Silver in the 1996 movie “Muppet Treasure Island.” “As a performer he was unparalleled – witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny,” they wrote. “We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew.” “Thank you for everything, Tim.” The actor, who performed in “Rock Horror Picture Show” and “Home Alone 2,” joins Dolly Parton, Robin Williams, Cee Lo Green, Ricky Gervais and Jason Segal as fellow honourary Muppets. Renowned villain Curry also played a villain in 1989’s “Annie,” starring beside Carol Burnett. She also celebrated Curry on social media. “We had such a wonderful time working together on “Annie.” Nobody could play lovable villains better than he could,” Burnett wrote on Wednesday. “He was a dear friend. I was blessed to know him.” Rocky Horror tribute The late star led the cast of the Rocky Horror Show as Dr. Frank-N-Furter initially as a play in London then later on film. A troupe of actors in Indiana plan to work in a tribute to Curry in their upcoming performance in Griffith Ind. They had planned a Spongebob Squarepants themed Rocky Horror crossover performance. “Why did he have to go now, right before our Spongebob show?” said Holly Schulz, Rocky Horror in Abundance cast member said per the Chicago Tribune. “We want to work in a moving tribute to Tim Curry. So we are probably going to be crying and getting choked up, with Frank being played by one of the villains of Spongebob.” A Broadway production of the Rocky Horror Show honoured Curry in their Wednesday show. Speaking at curtain call, actor Paul Soileau who plays Dr. Frank-N-Furter celebrated the inclusivity and community of the show. “Obituaries always say that he didn’t have children. And that’s bulls–t, because he has so many children in this world,” Page Six reported the actor saying. “Tim Curry has more family than I think any of us could ever imagine.” The audience is reported to have “burst into applause and broke into a chant of ‘Tim! Tim! Tim!’”
