A London man is facing several charges as police accuse him of being a getaway driver for an organized theft ring. On May 31, a vehicle that had been stolen from the Mississauga area was spotted parked outside a business on Stone Road West. When Guelph Police Service officers tried to block in the vehicle, they noticed a man in the driver’s seat appeared to be watching the entrance of the business. The driver rammed a police vehicle, drove over the curb and sped off. Shortly after, three men from Brampton left the business and were arrested. Staff told police they believe the trio had been trying to steal cellphones from a display. Investigators later identified the man who was allegedly behind the wheel. A 39-year-old man from London was arrested on Wednesday and charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, dangerous driving, flight form police and failing to stop after a collision. Police believe the man may be a getaway driver for an organized theft ring.
