Good Samaritans had to help a driver who ended up in Guelph Lake. A sedan went off Wellington Road 124 on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police said the vehicle drove through a guard rail and right into the water. The driver was trapped inside and, when the car started to sink, witnesses rushed over to help. “The driver was safely brought to shore, where they were assessed by EMS and subsequently transported to hospital with minor injuries,” a media release said. Wellington Road 124 was shut down for a short time at Jones Baseline. Police said they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Witnesses are asked to contact Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. August crash Wednesday’s crash was the second time a vehicle was driven into Guelph Lake this summer. On Aug. 4, another driver lost control on Wellington Road 29 during a storm. OPP said the vehicle ended up on its roof in a marshy area, trapping the driver inside as it rapidly began filling with water. A bystander then waded into Guelph Lake, cut the driver’s seatbelt and freed them from the submerged vehicle. The driver was eventually charged with making an unsafe move.
