A fight in downtown Guelph took a turn when one of those involved pulled out a hammer. Guelph Police responded to a disturbance near Gordon Street and Waterloo Avenue around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday. “Two men were reportedly involved in an argument when one removed a hammer from his backpack and began swinging it, striking the other man a number of times,” they said in a media release. The victim took off. Police said he reported minor defensive injuries but turned down medical treatment. The other man, a 26-year-old from Guelph, was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
