Main Street in Belmont, Ont. was packed with kids and adults in costume Saturday morning. “This is the annual ‘Li’l Monster Walk and Roll’ and many of the businesses in Belmont participate and hand out candy to the kids,” said Tracy Vink-Taylor, past president of the Belmont Swans. “This started a number of years ago and was run by a different organization called The Hub. When that disbanded, the Belmont Swans took it over. It’s a great way to let the little young ones that maybe can’t go out trick or treating late tonight still get a chance to experience and go out.” The Swans hand out a map to all the participating businesses for the event which begins at 10 a.m. and runs until noon. “The Belmont Swans are the ones that put it on and they do an awesome job every year,” said Jared Chestnut, owner of Country Pizza. “We’ve got perfect weather for it, so it’s really cool. It’s great for the local businesses and almost everybody participates in town. We used to get like 50 to 100 kids when we used to participate, now I got enough candy for like 500 [kids] and I’m probably going to run out.” Among those walking down the street was Jose Pineda, a local resident dressed as Batman. “It’s a great event that this town runs and we absolutely love it,” said Pineda. “We have some family from outside of town also visiting. It’s a great town and I love this event that they’re able to pull off.” At the Swans’ information table, they had gone through 200 juice boxes in the first 30 minutes. “It’s just grows and grows every year,’ said Vink-Taylor. “I think last year we had about 360 participants. I’ve talked to a lot of people where they’re from and we’re drawing from London, Dorchester, Harrietsville, and Belmont. We just we love doing events to support the Belmont community.”
