A 15-year-old faces several charges after a vehicle with three people inside, crashed down an embankment and came to rest along the shoreline of Georgian Bay in Owen Sound early Sunday morning. Emergency crews were called to the 2900 block of 3rd Avenue West at about 2:05 a.m. where police said the vehicle left the roadway, crossed a grassy shoulder and plunged about 20 feet down an embankment before coming to rest near the water’s edge. Investigators said two of the people inside fled the scene before emergency crews arrived but were quickly found by responding officers. A 15-year-old was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration, dangerous operation, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving without a licence. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be identified. The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in November. Two of the vehicle’s occupants were assessed and treated at the scene by paramedics. A third occupant was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
