Ontario Provincial Police in Kirkland Lake are investigating at least 10 cases of thefts from motor vehicles in recent days in the community. Police said the spike in cases took place from July 20 to Aug. 8, and includes one case of a stolen vehicle. “Investigators believe the suspects have been targeting residential areas throughout the Town of Kirkland Lake during the overnight hours, checking for unlocked vehicles and stealing valuables and other items left inside,” police said. “The OPP would like to remind the public that vehicle owners/passengers can do simple things to decrease the risk of being a victim of theft.” Protect yourself Those steps include ensuring your doors are locked and windows are rolled up. Never leave money or valuables in plain sight, and items such as your vehicle registration should be kept with you, not in the vehicle.
