Greater Sudbury police say the man responsible for a vicious assault on Aug.28 was arrested Saturday and charged with attempted murder. Police said in a news release Monday, a 40-year old man was located and arrested by the emergency response unit at approximately 8:20 p.m. The man appeared in court Sunday and police ask anyone with information on this incident to contact the Greater Sudbury Police Service at 705-675-9171 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Police responded to an incident early Friday morning in the city’s downtown. In a news release Friday, police said officers received multiple 911 calls reporting that a male had been assaulted and responded to the Durham and Larch Street area just before 1:00 a.m. on Aug. 28. “Upon arrival, officers located a 35-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to Health Sciences North for medical treatment,” police said. Investigators canvassed the downtown, reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved.
