A Thunder Bay man has been charged with impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash July 18 on Highway 11-17 in northwestern Ontario. Ontario Provincial Police responded around 10 a.m. to the collision, which took place near Fish Hatchery Road in Dorion Township. “Officers subsequently located the vehicle in the eastbound ditch. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet pickup truck, was in among the trees,” police said in a news release July 23. “Through further investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to local hospital by emergency medical services to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.” The 22-year-old has been charged with impaired driving and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon. “The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education,” police said. “If you suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 911 to report it.”
