An adult male is facing impaired driving charges following a two-vehicle crash in Timmins on Tuesday evening. The impact of the collision sent the suspect’s car rolling onto the property of a school. The Timmins Police Service said three people suffered minor injuries during the crash. The incident occurred at the intersection of Rea Street North and Jubilee Avenue West around 7:45 p.m. Police said one vehicle failed to stop at the intersection, struck another vehicle and continued onto school property. Video captured by Sabrina Levert, a passerby after the collision, showed the aftermath of the crash. “This is a pretty extensive motor vehicle collision. It’s not something we see normally in the city of Timmins,” said Det. Const. Nick Buczkowski with the local police service. Buczkowski said the suspect’s vehicle “spiraled and rolled” into the field behind École Intermédiaire Sacré-Coeur, causing damage to the property and scattering debris in the area. Buczkowski said speed appears to have been a factor, though investigators are not releasing further details at this time. An man has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while under suspension. Buczkowski said the accused’s identity cannot be released until the charges have been sworn before the court. The two other people who were hurt, included a passenger in the accused’s vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle. Police said both suffered minor injuries. Buczkowski said the circumstances could have resulted in more serious injuries, noting the crash happened near a school yard and soccer field. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be considered.
