Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police charged an Oshawa man after a traffic stop where an officer seized suspected cocaine valued at $50,000. “Members of the Manitoulin OPP were conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Highway 17 near Michon Road in Baldwin Township when they observed a vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed,” police said in a news release Tuesday. “The investigating officer observed signs consistent with drug impairment and a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a small quantity of suspected cannabis that was readily accessible to the driver,” police said. “Officers also located approximately 497 grams of suspected cocaine in two clear plastic bags with an estimated street value of approximately $50,000.” A 37-year-old Oshawa man was charged with impaired driving, stunt driving, driving with cannabis readily available and possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking. The accused made a court appearance Sept. 19 and will appear at a later date in court in Espanola. Police said the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension while the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
