Wildfire activity is picking up on Vancouver Island, with four fires currently listed as out of control by the B.C. Wildfire Service, as crews respond to new activity across the Island. One of the fires located near Nitinat Main was discovered Saturday and has grown to seven hectares, making it the largest of the four currently being tracked. The suspected cause is humans and helicopters are assisting firefighters with the response. Another fire, Thistle Mine Road, discovered Sunday, is also suspected to be human-caused and has grown to about five hectares. B.C. Wildfires says aviation crews are assisting ground crews responding to this fire. A third fire is burning near Leech River was also discovered Sunday and is estimated at 10 hectares with firefighting aircrafts being used to battle the blaze. The cause is under investigation. The fourth fire is much smaller in Pat Phillip Creek with the B.C. Wildfire Service listing it at 0.5 hectares. Aircrafts have been deployed to help ground crews contain the fire that was discovered Sunday. The wildfire service says none of the four wildfires are currently threatening structures or have area restrictions. Fire size and status can change quickly as crews assess conditions and work to contain the flames. Residents are encouraged to check the B.C.
