One year after a suspicious death in Pikangikum First Nation, the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their appeal for information with the support of a $50,000 reward. Tina Turtle, 61, was found in medical distress just after 10 p.m. on June 1, 2025, in a residence on Big Jouse Road. It later emerged that she had serious injuries consistent with a car crash. She was later pronounced dead at a nursing station. “The post-mortem examination determined that the cause of death was the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision,” the OPP said in a news release Sept. 1. The province is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for Turtle’s death. “The chief and council of the First Nation of Pikangikum are asking community members with information about the tragic death of Tina Turtle to come forward to the police,” Pikangikum Chief Paddy Peters said in the release. Suspicious death “Unsolved suspicious deaths like these have an impact on the community and coming forward will provide closure for the family and the entire First Nation of Pikangikum.” The OPP north west region crime unit is continuing the investigation, under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. “Tina Turtle’s family deserves answers,” Det. Insp. Adam Wilkins of the CIB said in the release. “Our role is to determine what happened to her and provide those answers.
