Lawyers for Sault Ste. Marie MPP Chris Scott asked for three more months for more consultation as his assault case works its way through the court system. At a virtual hearing Wednesday morning, Marcela Ahumada, representing Scott’s defence lawyer Michael Lacy, asked that the case return Oct. 28. Ahumada said the delay would allow ongoing discussions aimed at resolving the charges without a trial. None of the charges have been proven in court and he is considered innocent unless proven otherwise. Scott, whose legal name is Chris Van Scott, was charged with two counts of assault in September 2025, leading to his expulsion from the provincial Conservative party. He was first elected in the February 2025 provincial election to replace former Tory MPP Ross Romano, winning by a margin of just 118 votes. His case has slowly made its way through the court process since then, with his lawyers expressing confidence that it will be resolved without a trial.
