A mechanical problem with the ski lift at Adanac Ski Hill in Sudbury cancelled the secondary school city snowboarding final on Thursday. The good news is the problem is now fixed and the hill is open. Fortunately, the 97 athletes who were to compete in the Sudbury District Secondary School Athletic Association final Feb. 12 will all move on to the NOSSA snowboarding finals in Elliot Lake next week. Results from there will determine the city’s top snowboarders. “The Sudbury city championship results are based on next week’s results at NOSSA,” said Chris Verrilli, SDSSA athletic administrator. “We are going to be able to remove all non-Sudbury student athletes from the event, per se, and then be able to give out the championship banner and medals to racers who compete the best at NOSSA for next week.” On Wednesday, the Subury District Secondary School Athletic Association hosted the NOSSA Alpine Skiing Championship at Adanac with Lockerby Composite School and Bishop Alexander Carter taking home top spots for boys and girls team events.
