The Ottawa Police Service is reporting a drop in vehicle thefts in Ottawa so far this year, with Rideau-Vanier the hot spots for stolen vehicles. The Ottawa police crime map shows the service has received 583 reports of vehicle thefts since Jan. 1. Police received 831 reports of vehicle thefts between Jan. 1 and July 29, 2025, and 929 vehicle theft reports between Jan. 1 and July 22, 2024. Rideau-Vanier has been the hot spot for reported vehicle thefts so far this year, with 63 vehicles reported stolen. Between Jan. 1 and July 29, 2025, police received 67 reports of vehicle thefts in Rideau-Vanier. Of the 63 reported vehicle thefts in Rideau-Vanier, 22 of the vehicles have been reported stolen from the ByWard Market area. Forty-nine vehicles have been reported stolen from Alta Vista, while police have received 41 reports of vehicle thefts in Somerset and 38 vehicle thefts in Gloucester-Southgate.
