A 32-year-old man has been charged following an attempted carjacking in Winnipeg’s North End on Monday. The incident began just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Salter Street and Selkirk Avenue where a man in his 70s was driving northbound on Salter. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the suspect jumped in front of the car, attacked the victim through an open window, and tried to pull him out of the vehicle. Officers in the area happened upon the attempted carjacking, but the suspect ran away. He was eventually arrested in the 400 block of Flora Avenue after a short chase. Police note they used a conducted energy weapon during the arrest. A 32-year-old man has been charged with robbery and is in custody. The charges have not been proven in court. The victim sustained minor injuries but did not require further medical attention.
