A furry resident at a Beeton wildlife sanctuary is living a little larger, thanks to a generous gift. Miss Scully is an opossum living at Procyon Wildlife in New Tecumseth and now, she is the lone tenant at her very own enclosure, that was constructed thanks to a donation from a community foundation. According to executive director Deborah Spilar, donations from the Brampton Caledon Community Foundation and Green For Life Environmental helped create an outdoor enclosure for the animal. The enclosure appears to have a large screen door, an accessible ramp, an area outside for sitting in the sun and an indoor area as well. According to Spilar, Miss Scully arrived as an orphaned opossum and had been severely attacked. The attack left her with trauma and issues with motor skills. In a social media post, Spliar explains Miss Sully is deaf, partially blind and has occasional tremors and therefore cannot be released back into the wild. So these days, when she is not resting in her new ‘digs’, Miss Scully is an education ambassador for Procyon, often used to teach students about wildlife conservation.
