A driver was taken into custody after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on Highway 11 in the early hours of Thursday. Officers responded to a reported dangerous driver in the area of Highway 11 and 9th Avenue around 3 a.m. according to an update from the Regina Police Service (RPS) on Thursday. The same vehicle had previously been stopped by the RCMP on the highway. During that stop, the man who was driving got out of the vehicle while officers conducted their investigation. He eventually got back inside the vehicle and fled the scene. RPS’s Aerial Support Unit found the vehicle and tracked it. Officers on the ground were able to deploy a spike strip, which stopped the vehicle after a short distance. A woman, who was now driving the vehicle, and the man who was originally driving, fled the vehicle on foot. The man was arrested with the help of a police dog. He was treated for minor injuries. The woman was arrested without incident, according to police. The man faces charges through the RCMP related to the original traffic stop. The 26-year-old woman faces one count of fleeing a police officer. She is set to make her first appearance on her charge in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 15.
