A Regina diver has already won silver at the Junior World Championships in Rijeka, Croatia. On Sunday, Lila Stewart finished second in the one-metre springboard event for ages 16 to 18. “It was a great way for me to break the ice this week at the Junior World Championships. I wanted to be consistent and avoid making any mistakes,” Stewart said in a Diving Canada news release. “I had a great few dives, and I really enjoyed myself, even though the finals were a bit stressful.” Stewart topped the standings in Sunday morning’s preliminaries, making her the last to dive in the finals. After falling to fourth place following her first two dives, Stewart finished strong with a dive that netted her 58.50 points. She ended the day with 398.80 points in total. “When you’re the last one to dive in the finals, you feel a lot of pressure. I knew my dive had to be excellent if I wanted to make the podium,” she said. “But it was also a very exciting moment, especially since I could hear my teammates cheering me on when I was on the board.” The competition is scheduled from Aug. 21 to 28.
