The Davidson Volunteer Fire Department put out a field fire on Monday. Eight members responded to the blaze at around 4:45 p.m. Monday. They arrived to find a disconnected combine header fully engulfed in flames. “The field of standing wheat was on fire and spreading fast to the SE. Multiple neighbouring farmers were on scene with heavy discs working to contain the fire,” read a social media post from the fire department. Four fire vehicles were used to battle the blaze. “E482 pulled an attack line and worked on extinguishing the header fire. R481 and W482 deployed attack lines and headed up the north and south flanks to the head of the fire extinguishing hotspots,” the post read. “This fire was moving incredibly fast in the windy conditions. The north/south grid road at the end of the field stopped the fire.” The volunteer department says a few embers crossed the road, igniting hotspots in a neighbouring field, but they were quickly extinguished. The firefighters extinguished all hotspots by about 7:15 p.m. Balgonie field fire The Balgonie Volunteer Fire Department also fought a field fire Monday, on the south of the town, with crews on site around 5:25 p.m. “Thanks to the quick actions of the farmer it was contained to the swaths and didn’t get into the standing crop,” read a social media post. “BVFD extinguished the burning swaths, and we were able to clear the scene in an hour or so.”
