Wildfire activity remains a concern across Saskatchewan as crews continue to respond to fires burning in the province’s north. According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), the number of active wildfires across the province climbed to 68 as of Friday afternoon. Earlier this week, there were 55 active wildfires burning in Saskatchewan. Data from the SPSA shows that only 11 of the 68 active wildfires were considered contained on Friday. As of Saturday at 10:30 a.m., there were 62 active wildfires in the province. Of those, 13 are contained, eight are not contained, 35 are listed as ongoing assessment, and six are listed as protecting values. Despite the increase in fires, the air quality advisory that was in place for most of northern Saskatchewan has been lifted. An air quality alert is now in effect for the southwest corner of the province, with Environment Canada advising poor air quality will likely linger. The SPSA says 283 wildfires have been reported in Saskatchewan so far this year. By comparison, 398 wildfires had been recorded by the same point in 2025. No evacuation incidents are currently being managed by the SPSA. But the agency has responded to two evacuation incidents this year compared with 32 during the same period last year.
